BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Gary Poth, a 41-year-old resident of Bucyrus, has pleaded guilty to multiple felonies in the Crawford County Common Pleas Court, leading to a prison sentence. The charges against Poth included felonious assault, discharging a firearm in a prohibited area, weapons under disability, and possession of drugs.

The incident occurred on January 26, 2023, at around 6:22 pm when officers from the Bucyrus Police Department responded to reports of shots fired at a residence in the 700 block of Gay Street.

Witnesses described the vehicle from which the shots were fired, which was later identified as belonging to Gary Poth and found parked near 728 Gay St.

Upon further investigation, officers discovered .45 caliber shell casings in front of the house at 728 Gay St.

Despite the female resident’s initial denial, evidence indicated that the attic entry had been disturbed, leading to a search of the house by Crawford County Probation and Deputies. The Special Response Team (SRT) was also called to search the house but found no one inside.

During the investigation, the female resident revealed that she had been arguing with Poth over the phone before the gunshots were heard. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as she and her children were inside the house then. Poth was eventually taken into custody.

Following Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold’s acceptance of the plea agreement, Poth was sentenced to an indeterminate term of 10-11 1/2 years in prison. This sentence will run consecutively with Poth’s previous 84-month sentence from 2015.
