NEWS RELEASE:

GALION – Galion High School French teacher Violeta D. Chinni was selected as the latest recipient of the Believe, Achieve, Succeed Award during the regular meeting of the Galion City School District Board of Education March 20.

Ms. Chinni, who has been with the district for four years, was described as being positive, enthusiastic and engaged with students by one of her peers. Another describes her as being a powerful force with her students in her short time in Galion and is impressed at how Ms. Chinni inspires her students.

“I am very humbled to be selected to receive this recognition,” said Chinni. “Being nominated by my colleagues makes this a very special honor, and I sincerely love being a Tiger.”

Ms. Chinni organized an extensive field trip for her French students to New Orleans in 2015, Quebec City in 2016 and is in the final planning stages of a student trip to New York City in 2018. Ms. Chinni is also planning a future trip to Niagara Falls and Montreal.

“Violeta is constantly looking for new and exciting ways to engage her students in the classroom,” explained Galion Superintendent Jim Grubbs. “Her innovative instructional methods greatly enrich the education Galion students receive and she is very deserving of this recognition.”

The Board of Education also recognized the Galion City School District Athletic Department and Athletic Director Kyle Baughn as a 2018 recipient of the prestigious “Award of Excellence”. The award is a collaboration between the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) and the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (OIAAA).

“Kyle works incredibly hard and this state-level award shows his dedication to Galion student-athletes,” said Grubbs. “This award is only given to a small group of school districts, and Galion’s selection shows its dedication to developing a ‘complete’ student-athlete.”

The board recognized outstanding achievements of the winter sports teams and student-athletes, and then accepted donations totaling nearly $14,000 from the Galion Booster Club, Christ United Methodist Church Mission Fund, the Arthur J. Freese Charitable Trust and the Walter R. Hessenauer Trust for various areas of district operations.

Following administrative reports and discussions, the board approved all agenda items as presented before adjourning to executive session with no additional business being conducted following the executive session.

The next regular meeting of the Galion City School District Board of Education will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Galion Middle School Library computer lab Tuesday, April 17.
