Firefighters with the Bucyrus Fire Department responded to the 911 call at 4:27pm. Crews used the ladder truck to climb to the top of the grain leg and douse the flames with approximately 500 gallons of water.

According to a report from Bucyrus FD, the mill’s plant manager said the fire began after a distributor seized and a torch was used to free it. Nearby debris ignited and mill employees were unable to control the blaze with fire extinguishers.

No injuries were reported. Damage estimates have not been completed.
