Fatal traffic crash in Greenfield Township under investigation

NORWALK, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Norwalk Post is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred in Greenfield Township at approximately 7:15 AM.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2014 Dodge Avenger, driven by Logan T. Lewis, 16, of Willard, OH, was traveling northbound on State Route 61. A 2012 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer, driven by Benjamin D. Mckillips, 45, of Berlin Heights, OH, was traveling southbound on the same route. The Dodge Avenger crossed the centerline and collided head-on with the Freightliner.

Following the collision, the Dodge Avenger came to rest off the east side of State Route 61, while the Freightliner came to rest off the west side. The Freightliner caught fire after the crash.

Logan T. Lewis sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Benjamin D. Mckillips sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Willard Hospital. He was later airlifted to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo by Life Flight.

The crash remains under investigation. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Huron County Coroner’s Office, Fairfield Township Fire Department, Willard Fire and Rescue, and Wilcox Garage.
