BUCYRUS—The National Weather Service in Cleveland has confirmed that a tornado did rip through Crawford County early Saturday morning.

Crawford County EMA Director Jette Cander said there were no reported injuries, just property loss. She said the tornado damage occurred between Sycamore and Chatfield.

The F0 tornado’s maximum winds were reported at 85 mph, its path was 2.8 miles long and its width was 200 yards, the National Weather Service has confirmed, according to Cander.

The Cleveland office of the NWS said the short-lived tornado traveled in a north-south broken line across Crawford County. It touched down five miles east-northeast of Sycamore and lifted four miles west of Chatfield.

The tornado damaged the roof of a barn near County Road 100. As the storm moved east, a large dairy barn was damaged and moved. Finally, as the storm pushed east, silo bolts were ripped from concrete and the silo was pushed onto railroad tracks where it was hit by a westbound train.

A two-car garage was damaged, concrete block was blown up into a tree and several two-by-fours were impaled into the ground and roof of the house, the weather service said in its summary.

This damage was near and along Ohio 19 near the Wheeling and Lake Erie track. About the same time that the tornado hit Crawford County on Saturday, straight-line winds of up to 70 mph swept through parts of Richland County, impacting 60 homes and businesses in Madison Township.
