The cause of a house fire at 1112 Hopley Ave., Bucyrus, that occurred early Sunday morning has been determined to be electrical.

According to Bucyrus Fire Lt. Casey Gillen, the fire started in a breaker box.

“It was a small fire that was limited to that area,” said Gillen.

Gillen said there is about $4,000 worth of damage to the electrical wiring and breaker box.

“That figure includes the cost of having a new breaker box installed and some of the wiring replaced,” said Gillen.

Firefighters received the call about the fire a little before 8 a.m. Sunday.

The Bucyrus Fire Department responded to the scene along with Bucyrus Police, deputies from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical technicians from Life Support Team EMS.

Gillen said a family of three lives in the home.

“They were able to get their pets out of the home while calling us. Everyone got out safely and there were no injuries,” Gillen said.

Gillen said the residents of the property have been displaced as the power was shut off until the electrical box can be replaced.

The Crawford County Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.
