Benedict dies…Three in custody charged with first-degree murder

CRESTLINE—Michael “Mikey “ Benedict succumbed to the injuries he sustained after a vicious beating at the hands of three assailants in October.

The three assailants Jaqueline Montgomery, her husband Timothy Montgomery, and Cameron Davis, were originally charged with felonious assault, a felony of the second degree.

The assault took place after the three had an altercation at a Crestline bar. The Crestline Police responded to the bar. The bartender asked the defendants and the victim to all leave the bar. The assault took place after all three ended up on the same street. An eyewitness called the police, and that 911 call is now being released by Crawford County Now.

Recently Crestline Police Chief Jeff Shook told Crawford County Now that he had a contingency plan in place. He made good on that promise and had both Montgomery’s in custody within minutes of learning of Benedict’s death.

Shook says he was informed of Benedict’s status at around 6:15 this morning and put surveillance in place. They were taken into custody by 6:30 am without incident.

All three have been charged with First Degree Murder. Crawford County Now will be in the courtroom following this breaking news story.

Crawford County Now spoke with Crawford County Prosecutor Matt Crall. “I can confirm that both Tim and Jacqualyn Montgomery have been taken into custody and served with murder charges.  Cameron Davis was already in custody on the felonious assault charge and will also receive a charge of murder due to the passing of Mr. Benedict.  I have not heard been given a time for their initial appearances in Municipal Court.  I would urge everyone involved to give the criminal justice system the chance to work,” Crall said.
