End-of-the-year honors at school board meetings typically go to students and sometimes teachers. At Monday’s Colonel Crawford Board of Education meeting, the recognition went to High School Principal Jake Bruner.

Dave Robertson of American Legion Post 181 in Bucyrus was in attendance to recognize Bruner for his actions in coming to the aid of a student who was choking in the cafeteria. Bruner was named the American Legion’s District Civilian Lifesaver of the Year and will also receive that award at the state level.

Other action by the school board included approving a list of 76 seniors for graduation. Mike Hensely was approved as Maintenance Director for next school year.

Athletics Director David Sheldon said the new scoreboard for the high school gymnasium has been ordered and is expected to be delivered by May 18. Sheldon said he hopes to have the board installed in time for graduation so that is in place for the community to see.

The board also approved a contract for installation of handicapped-accessible bleachers at the football stadium at a total cost of $30,564.
