BUCYRUS — A medical issue is to blame for a crash that occurred on East Mansfield Street around 11 a.m. on Saturday.

According to the Bucyrus Police Department, a 32-year-old man suffered a seizure causing him to lose control of his vehicle, sending it off the north side of East Mansfield Street near Pizza Hut.

The vehicle traveled through a grassy area into the parking lot of AutoZone before crossing the roadway, hitting a ditch projecting the vehicle into a pole in the parking lot of the former Wire Assemblies building.

The man was taken to Bucyrus Community Hospital by EMS personnel to be evaluated but was found to not have suffered any major injuries from the crash and was released.

He was not issued a citation due to the cause of the crash being medically related.

The Bucyrus Fire Department assisted at the scene and AEP Ohio repaired the pole and downed wires. The downed pole may have affected cable service as some customers experienced a temporary loss of service in the area.

The man’s vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Oceola Garage.
