A Crawford County Common Pleas Court jury needed just 30 minutes Friday morning to find 34-year Edward Johnson guilty on all three counts of the indictment against him. Johnson was found guilty of a fifth-degree felony charge of drug possession, a third-degree felony charge of corruption and a misdemeanor charge of falsification.
Johnson admitted on the stand Friday that he was in possession of drugs and lied to law enforcement authorities about his role in the overdose of 19-year-old Jayla Furr last August. But Johnson and attorney Thomas Nicholson argued against the corruption charge.
Assistant Prosecutor Cliff Murphy said he was very happy with the outcome of the trial and thinks it sends a message that this community will no longer tolerate drug users or those who bring drugs into the community.
Murphy says he intends to ask for the maximum penalty allowable by law. Johnson will be sentenced by Common Pleas Court Judge Russ Wiseman after a pre-sentence investigation and could get 9 years in prison.
