Athlete of the Week - Fall 2009



Each week Q92 and WBCO will post several athletes that listeners' feel contributed to their teams this past week. Then you will be able to vote on who should be the Athlete of the Week. Here are the winners from the 2009 fall sports season:

Athlete of the Week: Week 1
Athlete: Mitchell Phillips

Sport: Football
Position: Running Back
School: Col. Crawford
Grade: Senior
Jersey Number: 27
Why should Mitchell win?: Mitchell ran for 175 yards and 4 touchdowns in Colonel Crawford's 33-12 win over New London.

Athlete of the Week: Week 2
Athlete: Zach Brewington
Sport: Football
Position: OL/DE
School: Wynford
Grade: Senior
Jersey Number: 55
Why should Zach win?: Friday (9/4) night defensively Zach had 14 tackles, 7 solo and one for a loss. He also had a sack and a fumble recovery. On offense Zach anchored the offensive line that averaged 10 yards per carry.

Athlete of the Week: Week 3
Athlete: Ally Tuttle
Sport: Tennis
School: Bucyrus
Why should Ally win?: She is now 8-3 in first singles, beating Crestline (9/9) and Calvert (9/10) last week. Her other wins are against Galion, Pleasant, Clearfork and Upper. as well as Crestline and Calvert the first time we played them.

Athlete of the Week: Week 4
Athlete: Clarissa Scheffler and Emily Fruth
Sport: Tennis (doubles)
School: Bucyrus
Grade: Junior and Senior
Why should Clarissa and Emily win?: These girls are the second doubles varsity team. Their record is currently 10-2. They have had wins over Tiffin Calvert, Galion, Pleasant, Crestline twice, River Valley twice, Ontario, Mansfield Sr. and St Peters.They work very hard together and never give up. 

Athlete of the Week: Week 5
Athlete: Tyler Brause

Position: QB/DB
School: Wynford
Jersey Number: 3
Grade: Senior
Why should Tyler win?: Tyler was 13-13 passing for 232 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed the football 5 times for 57 yards and two touchdowns. On defense Tyler had 3 tackles and an interception.

Athlete of the Week: Week 6
Athlete: Patrick Ford
Sport: Golf
School: Bucyrus
Grade: Junior
Why should Patrick win?: Patrick has lead the Bucyrus golf team to a winning record and shot a 40 in his last match to beat Wynford and Riverdale in the final match of the season.

Athlete of the Week: Week 7
Athlete: Alex VanBuren
Sport: Football
Position: Corner
School: Col. Crawford
Jersey Number: 7
Why should Alex win?: Alex has broke up a lot of pass attempts, made some interceptions and is involved in what seems to be most of the tackles. Alex is also the punter and is consistently making very nice punts. Plays while he is hurt and gives 100 percent.

Athlete of the Week: Week 8
Athlete: Leah Oliver
Sport: Volleyball
Position: Middle Hitter
School: Wynford
Grade: Junior
Jersey: 2
Why should Leah win?: Leah led the Royals to a perfect 5-0 week including victories over 19-3 Elgin and 16-6 Crestline. Leah had 86 kills including 33 against Crestline, as well as 93 digs and was 76 for 77 serving. Leah has helped the Royals to a 6 game winning streak as they enter the tournament trail.

Athlete: Alex Linn

Position: OL/DL
School: Wynford
Grade: Junior

Why should Alex win?:
Friday (10/23) Alex helped an offensive that accounted for 311 yards in total offense. On defense Alex had 7 tackles, 4 solo and 1 sack.

Athlete of the Week: Week 10
Athlete: Kyle Dennison
Sport: Football
Position: QB
School: Bucyrus
Grade: Senior
Jersey Number: 9
Why should Kyle win?: Kiye is the first QB to rush more than 1000 yards in Bucyrus School hisotry. He has also passed for more than 1000 yards and scored 20 touchdowns this season.
